This year the second Jarman Award was presented at a special event at the Whitechapel Gallery on 22th September 2009. The award was presented to Lindsay Seers by Film London and Channel 4 in association with the Whitechapel Gallery. Lindsay Seers has been nominated because of her two works, her film Extramission 6, which was a highlight of this year’s Tate Triennial and the exhibition with film elements It Has to Be This Way at Matt’s Gallery in London’s East End. She has been giving the prize of £10,000. The other nominatees are:
- Anja Kirschner and David Panos
- Simon Martin
- Stephen Sutcliffe
This is what the Jarman Award jury said of Seers:
“A compelling storyteller, Seers presents a highly inventive approach to memoir, deftly celebrating the craft of film-making. Combining sculptural and filmic elements, her works effortlessly distil complex ideas into concise and engrossing narratives.”
